Behind the Title

I've never really been much into poetry, although I've slowly been learning to appreciate it more.  This poem certainly helped me in that direction, inspired my blog title, and is now one of my favorites.

When I have fears that I may cease to be
Before my pen has gleaned my teeming brain,
Before high-piled books, in charact'ry,
Hold like rich garners the full-ripened grain;
When I behold, upon the night's starred face,
Huge cloudy symbols of a high romance,
And think that I may never live to trace,
Their shadows, with the magic hand of chance;
And when I feel, fair creature of an hour
That I shall never look upon thee more,
Never have relish in the faery power
Of unreflecting love, --then on the shore
Of the wide world I stand alone, and think,
Till Love and Fame to nothingness do sink.

  1. OH MY! That's my favorite of his poetry, I memorized it for school!
    I actually thought about naming my blog something from this poem, but I went with a different line, :D

  2. This is a really neat poem. I read this poem just the other day in a novel I'm reading and thought of your blog. The poem jogged my memory of reading something similar and it turns out to be the very same thing. The poem is called When I have Fears that I may Cease to Be. Good poem.
